Respiratory syndrome in brachycephalic dogs: case report

Abstract

Brachycephalic Syndrome in Dogs is characterized by partial obstruction of the upper airway due to anatomical changes of these dogs. These fi ndings occurs in differents degrees in each dog and can cause restrict breathing, which may result in suffocation and collapse during excitement or warming due to climate or physical activity. The dog reported in this clinical case presented important symptoms of respiratory dyspnea high after excitement and was diagnosed with major anatomical changes in the region of the pharynx. The animal underwent corrective surgery, with improvement in respiratory pattern and absence of relapse after discharge.
