Abstract

The urinary bladder infection, having glucose-fermenting
microorganisms such as pathogens is the disease called as
emphysematous cystitis. These microorganism are able
to produce balls of gas in the bladder lumen. The most
frequent bacteria associated with this pathology are: Proteus
sp, Aerobacteraerogenous, Escherichia coli and Clostridium
spp. The causes are nonspecific and are usually secondary to
several conditions as diabetes mellitus, hyperadrenocorticism,
anatomical defects, urolithiasis, tumours, prolonged
corticosteroid therapy, bladder wall thickening caused by chronic
inflammation, and not ruling out the possibility of reports
in dogs not diabetic. The clinical sings are also nonspecific:
dysuria, hematuria, urinary frequency, abdominal pain,
apathy. Asymptomatic case could be accidentally diagnosed
by radiographic examination and pnemautúria. The objective
of this paper is to report a case of emphysematous cystitis
diagnosed through image investigation.
