Vasoactive and inotropic agents in anesthesia and critically ill patients

Abstract

The use of vasoactive agents may help to maintain the circulatory function in critically ill patients and during anesthesia, which is when decreased cardiac output and hypotension can occur. These agents have special characteristics and should be used with caution and adequate monitoring in order to prevent undesirable effects.
