Abstract

The veterinary professional is qualified to work in several areas of health, including in public health, due to the link between human, animal and environmental health and, thus, can acts in health promotion in communities. Because it is an interdisciplinary professional and therefore has a wide area of activity. He can interact in a very satisfactory way in activities related to health promotion and education, which is one of the objectives of the activities of the Health and Community Integration Program (HCIP). This paper reports the experience of a group of students of veterinary medicine at a Family Health Unit (FHU) when attending PISCO at Salvador University (UNIFACS). Activities inherent to the role of the veterinarian of the Family Health Support Center (FHSC) were carried out during the second half-year of 2016, in the district of Alto de Coutos, in the city of Salvador, by the students of the third year of Veterinary Medicine Course. These activities werethe basis of the discussion of the present study, as well as its contribution to the health programs, thus strengthening the role of the veterinarian in this new field of action.
