First notification of canine visceral leishmaniasis in a non-endemic municipality in the interior of the State of São Paulo in the year 2022: case report

Abstract

Canine Visceral Leishmaniasis is a compulsorily notifiable anthropozoonosis in several states and endemic in numerous regions of the country. It was first diagnosed and reported in the city of São João da Boa Vista (SP), in the year 2022. The case involved a male dachshund dog, 16 years old, from the state of Maranhão, which presented clinical signs and complementary exams consistent with the disease.
