Abstract

Formaldehyde is a chemical agent widely used in hospital environments and pathology laboratories to preserve corpses and samples intended for microscopic analysis. Despite its harmful potential to health, formaldehyde remains the most commonly used chemical substance in laboratories, frequently exposing health professionals and students. This study aimed to assess the level of knowledge among veterinarians regarding the risks associated with handling and disposing of formaldehyde. The research included 104 volunteers working in public and private establishments across various fields, who participated through an online questionnaire administered via Google Forms. The results indicated a need for periodic training on waste management in health care settings. Although professionals are aware of the risks, most do not adhere to standardized protocols for handling formaldehyde, thereby increasing the risk of exposure, the development of occupational diseases, and environmental contamination.
