Dog rabies in the municipality of Ibiúna, SP, 2024 – case report

Abstract

A case of canine rabies was reported in the municipality of Ibiúna, SP, in 2024, highlighting the importance of the integrated actions developed by human and animal health services. The victim, a 9-year-old child, was attacked by a dog infected with variant 3 of the rabies virus. A focus control was established in a 700-meter radius, and control measures, such as vaccination of dogs and cats and monitoring of contact animals, were implemented. The article discusses the behavior of the animal according to the virus variant and reinforces the need for continuous surveillance and annual rabies vaccination.
