Abstract

Liver biopsy technique i indicated for chronic diseases with long clinical course, safety being improved by use of ultrasound. Diagnosis of tissue damage before clinical signs are present can be made by the morphological analysis, decreasing economic losses or mortality of affected animals. The objective of the present study was to describe an ultrasound-guided needle biopsy technique in calves under local anesthesia. Based on the results, it was concluded that the technique is simple, easy to use as a routine method, has no risk for the animals health and is able to safely diagnose liver lesions.
