Abstract

This article is a review on the use of probiotics and prebiotics in commercial poultry industry. The importance of functional feeds is emphasized in relation to their composition and activity on the intestinal of these animals. Their mode of action and the benefits to poultry breeding are also presented. These functional feeds may probably substitute growth promoters in the future, for they reduce production costs and are responsible for better quality poultri products.
