Abstract

Music has been studied mainly because it promotes changes
in both humans and animals such as pain control, increased
sense of well-being, and decreased fatigue and anxiety, among
others. Research conducted with newborns, children, seniors,
and others has shown that therapy involving sounds can produce
physiological and behavioral changes such as decreased heart rate,
cortisol reduction, and improved mood. These positive effects
recently began to be studied in veterinary medicine worldwide as
well. In veterinary medicine, music has been used and studied as
a way to promote environmental enrichment, acting as positive
reinforcement and decreasing stress levels of animals during
handling. This study seeks to promote a greater knowledge
about music therapy and its use in the therapeutic approach and
in animal production.
